October 1, 2014 – Burlington, Vt. – Last January, the website techie.com   chose Burlington as one of the country’s top 10 most promising tech hubs. One reason mentioned in the write-up: the Vermont Tech Jam. The annual job fair and tech expo connects dozens of the state’s fastest growing and most innovative companies with job seekers, students, tech enthusiasts, career changers and community leaders. This year’s event — on Friday and Saturday, October 24 and 25, 2014, at Memorial Auditorium in Burlington — is free to attend.

Dealer.com and MyWebGrocer — two of the area’s largest tech employers — are underwriting the 8th annual Vermont Tech Jam. It’s organized by Seven Days, Vermont’s free, independent newsweekly, and the Vermont Technology Alliance, the trade organization supporting Vermont’s tech business community. Partner sponsors this year include BioTek, Champlain College, Keurig Green Mountain, Logic Supply, Merchants Bank, Middlebury Interactive Languages, the Vermont Agency of Education, the Vermont Technology Council and IBM.

The 8th Vermont Tech Jam offers:

A chance to meet dozens of recruiters from some of the state’s largest employers — Fletcher Allen Health Care, IBM, Keurig Green Mountain and the state of Vermont — as well as startups such as Pwnie Express, Greensea Systems, Notabli and Xemory.
An opportunity to talk with admissions staff from Champlain College, the University of Vermont Continuing Education, Vermont Technical College, the Community College of Vermont and Vermont Law School.
A tinker showcase in Burlington’s new Generator maker space.
Hands-on workshops devoted to prototyping video games and building computers, organized by gametheory and Logic Supply.
A screening of the documentary Web Junkie, which examines internet addiction in China, presented by the Vermont International Film Festival; it’s followed by a panel discussion organized by Champlain College.
“Tech Tank”: A chance to dive into eight, 10-minute presentations — co-sponsored by the Office of Creative Economy and Seven Days, and hosted by Emily Piper of Launch VT — highlighting some of the most exciting people, companies and ideas in Vermont’s tech ecosystem.
Presentations by groups of middle and high school students on the “student STEM stage,” organized by the Vermont Agency of Education.
The announcement of the winners of the Tech Jam innovator and ambassador awards.

“We are excited to be a part of this year’s Tech Jam once again,” said Heather Adams, VP of Human Resources at MyWebGrocer. “We actively encourage new talent to come to Vermont and this is a great event that supports the growing technology community. We have already hired 56 employees this year, 13 of which were interns. Events like Tech Jam introduce us to potential talent of all ages.”

“The Vermont Tech Jam is definitely a highlight in our recruiting process,” said Mike Sugg, Senior Director of Recruiting for Dealertrack and Dealer.com. “Each year, there are more booths with tech companies looking to hire, and the prospective talent pool continues to rise. As a community, we all benefit from this event and the opportunity to showcase Burlington as a great place to live and work. Dealer.com has been able to attract some of its brightest stars from the Tech Jam, and we look forward to another successful event this year.”

The Vermont Tech Jam was started in 2008 by Seven Days, the Vermont Technology Alliance and a coalition of public and private sector partners who sought to increase the visibility of the state’s vibrant, and growing, technology sector. There were two Tech Jams that year — one in January, and one in October. The Tech Jam became an annual event in 2009.
